Goal: Improve recruitment, increase pride, and help visitors navigate the campus.
Scope: Exterior of McNichols campus
Timeframe: 12 months

The University of Detroit Mercy was looking to increase their brand visibility and help new students and visitors navigate the campus. A collection of building banners communicates the UDM brand story and custom-commissioned murals from local artists help bring a taste of the city culture to the historic grounds. A 7-foot-tall Titan sculpture outside the Student Union offers passersby a memorable photo backdrop, while the wayfinding system helps vehicular and pedestrian traffic find important destinations throughout campus.

Goal: Help Barkside make a brand statement inside and out
Scope: Exterior and interior signage
Timeframe: 6 months including permitting

Barkside (part dog park, part watering hole) came to Ideation Orange looking for help bringing their playful brand to their space. We designed modest yet impactful exterior signage to help attract the attention of patrons. The interior features fun activations throughout, including a logo made to resemble a tennis ball.

City of Hazel Park

Goal: Gateway signage to welcome people to Hazel Park
Scope: Monument and Gateway Signage
Timeframe: 2 years

Hazel Park leaders came to Ideation Orange to design the first major public expression of the city. The design signals the city's rebirth, constructed with angled metal that nods to the local "maker" culture. The warm colors resemble rays of light reaching to the sky. The hope is that the gateway sign will increase pride in the city and encourage business investment.

Sunnyside Medicare

Goal: Increase sales, employee retention & recruitment
Scope: Reception experience, breakroom/gathering space
Timeframe: 4 months
Square Feet: 3500 sq. ft.

Sunnyside Medicare had recently invested in a new brand and website and was in the process of building out a new headquarters when they turned to Ideation Orange to help create a reception experience that would promote trust, confidence and communicate the Sunnyside difference to their guests, which included potential customers as well as employees.

The process of selecting the right Medicare plan can be daunting and the team at Sunnyside pride themselves on removing the confusion from the experience. At the moment of entrance, the tone of support is felt at first glance. "Let us be your guide." This phrase is a through-line of what people say about Sunnyside, discovered through researching customer reviews. We applied this research to our design and used the shape of the lettering as a leading line into the space.

Area designed to be a place of peace and imagination with simple greenery and a wall of 25 pieces of original abstract art.

A kitchen and employee gathering space enclosed with glass walls brought natural light into the space but lacked a level of privacy needed for peace. Using a combination of translucent orange and frosted vinyl films we created an element that brought both brand energy and privacy to this space.

Bright Ideas Modern Furniture

Goal: Increase brand visibility and business with the launch of a new flagship location.
Scope: Exterior façade and signage design
Timeframe: 4 months

Bright Ideas Modern Furniture was moving from their original location of many years, to a larger space. They wanted a brand refresh that would better represent their new interior look and location – and help keep them top of mind with their customers. We designed a fresh exterior look using bright colors to highlight entryways – as well as clean trimless channel letters for a new logo that was sophisticated, modern and bold. Not only did the new, mid-century modern look represent their brand even better than before – it made them more visible and popular than ever.

Vestergaard Farms

Goal: To attract the attention of potential customers driving by
Scope: Exterior signage and branding for a new farm and market with an old school vibe.
Timeframe: 3 months

The owner of Vestergaard Farms contracted Ideation Orange to design the exterior of his farm and market. The market was unique in that even though it was new, it evoked an old-school feeling as if it had been there forever. We focused on those attributes when coming up with a look and feel for the signage, and created custom typography with traditional vibes and modern sensibilities. Additionally, all of the exterior logos and signs were hand-painted to help tell the story of “old meets new.”

Strategic Energy Solutions, Exterior

Goal: To create a space that employees wanted to work in
Scope: Building exterior
Timeframe: 5 months
Collaborators: Jessie Kassel (Local Detroit Muralist)

Strategic Energy Solutions was looking for ways to use exterior art to make their Berkley Michigan Headquarters a more attractive place for employees to spend time. SES also wanted to give back to the community they’ve called home for over 20 years. Ideation Orange developed a concept centered around industry and the Great Lakes which paired well with the business offering of SES. Once the theme was established, we researched various local muralists to bring the idea to life. Jesse Kassel brought the right combination of style and experience to the project, and through collaboration with him and the City of Berkley’s Art Commission the mural was installed in November of 2020. The art has become a conversation piece among employees, as well as neighbors. One in particular who wrote a letter thanking the owner for bringing the art to the community.
